Leslie Jones began her career in music with a hilarious performance at college in 1987. She won the college contest “Funniest Person On Campus” in which her performance was recognized. Leslie moved to Los Angeles after she was recognized for her comedy talents. Jones began performing in multiple clubs after she arrived in Los Angeles. Mother Love and Dave Chappelle encouraged Jones, while she was working at the club to continue her comedy career.
Jones was a guest on ComicView by BET before returning to Los Angeles. Leslie performed previously at The Comedy Store in West Hollywood. Jones’ appearance on Saturday Night Live December 2013 was a surprise to many. She was not averse to Kenan Thompson, one the show’s participants. Sasheer Zmeta was cast in the casting call as a player, while Lakendra Tookes and Lakendra Tookes were chosen as writers. Andrew Garfield presented Weekend Update on May 3, 2014. Jones was featured in the edition. She was also the priority for African-Americans in Saturday Night Live.
