Despite the efforts of the residents of Fraser’s Ridge, the fire proved too fierce to be extinguished. The next day, Jamie and Young Ian sift through the rubble, where Ian makes an interesting discovery—a childhood portrait of Jamie’s son, William Ransom.
Ian, having recognized Fraser’s unmistakable likeness, reveals that he knows William is Jamie’s son.
In another twist, Jamie finds a gold bar hidden amongst the wreckage and confronts Arch Bug about its origin. Bugs confesses that the bar is part of a lost Jacobite treasure, which he obtained from Hector Cameron’s grave.
Jamie releases Bugs from his slavery vows, prompting Bugs and his wife, Mrs. Mug, deciding to leave the area, took the rest of the hidden gold with them.
