Richard Belzer’s death was informed by his old friend, Bill Scheft. According to him, the 78-year-old actor died peacefully at his home with his family in Beaulieu-sur-Mer, southern France.

According to Scheft, even though there was no reason for the standup comedian’s death, Richard suffered from quite a number of circulatory and respiratory problems as a result of his age.
The first person to announce his death on social media was comedian Laraine Newman on Twitter. The comedian had worked with Richard Belzer on SNL for a total of 5 years (from 1975-1980).
Laraine paid tribute to her co-star by writing in the following words, “I am deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Richard Belzer. I really love this man.”
Laraine also wrote the following, “He was one of my first friends when I arrived in New York to do ‘SNL. We used to go to dinner every week in Sheepshead Bay for lobster. One of the funniest people ever. A master at crowd work. Dear RIP.”
